There are currently four climbing trails to the summit of Mt. Fuji--Fujinomiya, Gotemba, Subashiri, and Yoshida. These connect to a route that circles the summit crater, and many mountain climbers aim for the volcano rim of Mt. Fuji along this route. In drawings of the Edo period, the landscape of Mt. Fuji's summit was rendered as a world of gods and Buddha with nine honored buddhas on the eight-petaled lotus. Worshipping the eight peaks that surround the summit crater was called Ohachi-Meguri, which means crater loop pilgrimage. Here, we will introduce the route circling the summit crater from the 8th station of the Fujinomiya Trail. Experience Mt. Fuji tohai and Ohachi-Meguri as seen today.
